Project Planning & Support

Swatching & Test Prints

  • Order a swatch kit to confirm which fabric has the appropriate texture, weight, and softness for your project at hand.
  • Need more coverage? Order a single 1-yard test print to confirm scale and pattern placement on a real cushion or drapery mockup.
  • Order a fat quarter bundle to sample multiple coordinating designs and prints

Scale & Repeat Guidance

  • Seating & Ottomans: Mid-scale motifs (3–6") help center a focal element without heavy waste for matching.
  • Accent Chairs & Headboards: Medium/large repeats (6–12"+) add impact—plan extra yardage for motif alignment.
  • Drapes & Roman Shades: Vertical repeats (8–24") read best from a distance; consider lining for body and light control.

Yardage Planning Tips

  • Throw Pillows (20"): ~0.75–1 yd for two faces (patterned), zipper or envelope closure.
  • Dining Seat (boxed): 0.75–1 yd per chair depending on repeat and boxing depth.
  • Pair of 96" Drapery Panels: Typically 12–14 yds at 2.0–2.5× fullness (54–56" print width). Adjust for hems/headers and pattern match.
  • Always add 0.5–1 yd for centering motifs and seam allowances when matching repeats.

Base Fabric Selection (Use-Case Quick Picks)

  • Heavy-use seating: Cotton Duck / Cotton Twill, 10.5 oz Linen, or Performance-style Poly/Linen.
  • Slipcovers & Cushions: Cotton Duck or Twill for structure; Cotton Sateen for coordinating pillows.
  • Drapes & Roman Shades: 7 oz Linen or Cotton-Linen 90/10 for natural drape; Cotton Sateen for lined panels.
  • Sunrooms/covered outdoor: Durable Polyester options; shade recommended to preserve print vibrance.

Workroom & Finishing

  • Our fiber-reactive process yields a soft hand and saturated color. Light pressing/steaming before cutting helps relax the fabric.
  • Plan for normal workroom tolerances and minimal residual shrink (press, then cut). Test any interfacings/linings in a small area first.
  • Pre-plan motif placement on templates; railroading vs. up-the-bolt will affect repeat alignment and yardage.

Care & Use

  • Cotton/Linen: Cold gentle wash when applicable; line dry or low tumble; press on reverse as needed.
  • Polyester: Machine wash warm/cold; low tumble; remove promptly to reduce creasing.
  • Upholstery outcomes vary by construction and use; test care on a swatch or hidden seam before full cleaning.

Additional substrates are available. If you require a special substrate we do not carry, our team will work with you to source additional substrates (full roll commitments required). If you prefer to supply your own fabric, we do ask that it be prepared for printing ("PFP").

The Textile District's Quality Standards

Our quality assurance team actively manages the production process from start to end to ensure our color and print standards are maintained and results in top quality, durable products that are soft to the touch and hold up with normal washing and wear.

Due to the nature of on-demand printing, you may see slight color variations from one run to another and when printed on different fabric types. When printing on natural fibers, you can expect to see small irregularities and imperfections in the weave as well as the printed design. These are natural characteristics of these fibers and capture the beauty and woven texture of these natural fabrics.
