Join us in welcoming Kris Ruff to The Textile District! An artist with a passion for color and pattern, Kris is the dynamic artist and surface designer behind Kris Ruff Designs. Influenced by Scandinavian modern style, Kris draws her inspiration primarily from nature and depicts that through her use of lively linework in her designs. Her use of simple shapes creates playful, energetic designs that are as contemporary as they are timeless!

After receiving her Fine Arts degree from University of Wisconsin, Kris worked as a graphic artist/art director in her native Minneapolis for more than a decade. In 2000, she left her graphic design job to pursue a dream of creating her own products. Fueled by her passion for skydiving, Kris developed a line of graphic T-shirts which then grew into a full lifestyle brand. Kris remained inspired by prints which led to her creative calling in designing fabric patterns. In her own words, her mission is to encourage everyone to have fun with color and pattern because it brings the joy we need in our everyday lives!

The Textile District is thrilled to bring Kris's unique style and inspiration to you and demonstrate how easy it is to mix and match her fabric prints and colors for your next project! Every design is digitally stored and available to print on any base fabric you choose. As a final touch, our reactive dyes and eco-friendly, OEKO-TEX® certified process produces beautiful, soft and colorfast fabrics for apparel to home decor! So let's get started!!

Designing with Color: "Black and White" Fabric Coordinates

Hands down, Black and White is the all-time winner for the most classic and elegant color scheme! It is chic, yet always friendly, and guaranteed to never go out of style! You can go full on monochrome, blend in a touch of gray, or add a splash of color. When coupled with bright colors, it's no surprise that its popularity extends to baby gifts, accessories, and nursery decor! Black and White is also a top choice reinforced by child development experts who encourage the use of high contrast colors and prints when designing for newborns - from room decor, bedding, and baby clothing to visually stimulating soft toys, play mats, quilts, and more!

Designing with Color: "Neutrals" Fabric Coordinates

Everyone loves neutrals. For fashion and home decor, neutrals alone can make a unique personal statement or set the mood of the room. They do their best work when partnered with an accent: a bit of shimmer, texture or splash of dynamic color! Whether tan, gray, linen (or even black!) palettes are anything but boring. You can couple a warm palette with poppy, marigold, salmon and scarlet to bring a spark of energy. If you prefer a palette that leans towards gray, you can bring in cool shades of pink and purple to add style and personality to a room or outfit!

Designing with Color: "All Blues" Fabric Coordinates

A perennial favorite for fashion and home decor, blue is particularly strong when coupled with white, natural shades and accents of gold! The ideas are endless when you can print any design and colorway on the base fabrics you choose. The creative opportunities are endless!

Designing with Color: "Autumn Spice" Fabric Coordinates

Inspired by nature, our Autumn Spice color story blends a richness of seasonal colors and textures anchored in cool shades of spruce and evergreen to create a warm and inviting palette for home decor and apparel alike. Coupled with the warmth of copper and splashes of white, rose and blush pink, these gorgeous shades create an exquisite palette for creating a picture perfect holiday table with layers of pattern and texture.
