Fat Quarter Bundles for Quilting and Sewing

Fat quarters are one of the most useful fabric formats for quilting and small sewing projects because they provide more usable width than a narrow quarter-yard strip. They are especially well suited to patchwork, bags, cloth napkins, quilt blocks, small accessories and handmade gifts.
The Textile District’s artist-designed Fat Quarter assortments include twelve coordinated prints on our Cotton Quilt fabric. Each assortment is printed to order in the USA and supplied as three continuous yards, arranged so you can cut the fabric into twelve 18" × 21" fat quarters when you are ready to sew.
What Is a Fat Quarter?
A traditional fat quarter is approximately 18" × 21". Instead of cutting a quarter yard as a long, narrow strip across the full width of the fabric, a half-yard section is divided in half across the width.
The result is a wider rectangular piece that is easier to use for quilt blocks, bags, napkins, appliqué, patchwork and other projects that benefit from more usable surface area.
How The Textile District Fat Quarter Bundles Are Supplied
Each Textile District Fat Quarter assortment contains twelve coordinated artist-designed prints on Cotton Quilt fabric.
The assortment is supplied as three continuous yards rather than twelve individually pre-cut pieces. The twelve fat-quarter sections are arranged within the printed yardage so you can cut them apart when you are ready to use them.
This format keeps the fabric together during production and shipping while giving you twelve coordinated sections for quilting and sewing.

It is direct printed using OEKO-TEX® certified fiber-reactive dyes, then professionally steamed, washed and dried as part of the finishing process. No additional prewashing is required before sewing.

Use Fat Quarters for Quilting

A twelve-print assortment gives you a mix of motifs, scales and supporting patterns while maintaining a related color story. Depending on the quilt pattern, you can use one assortment on its own or combine it with solids, blenders or additional yardage.
Before cutting, look at the scale and direction of each design. Large motifs may be especially useful for fussy cutting, while smaller repeats often work well for piecing and supporting blocks.

Use Fat Quarters for Reversible Cloth Napkins
Two coordinating fat quarters can be used to make one reversible cloth napkin, allowing both prints to become part of the finished project.
A twelve-print assortment can therefore make six reversible napkins when two fabrics are paired for each one, or up to twelve single-layer napkins if each section is finished individually.

Mix Prints by Color, Scale & Pattern
Coordinating fabrics do not need to match exactly.
A balanced group often combines different pattern scales and visual weights. Try pairing:
- a large floral with a smaller geometric
- a painterly print with a stripe
- a focal motif with a quieter tonal design
- several prints that repeat one shared color
