Meet the Artist: Mackenzie Nelson Art

We are thrilled to introduce Mackenzie Nelson, the artist behind Mackenzie Nelson Art and the "Papillon" design collection now available on The Textile District! This sweet botanical and butterflies themed collection features twelve designs in multiple colorways from soft pinks, peach, buttery yellow, sunset orange and greens to warm and cozy earth tones! Perfect for interior design to clothing, gifts, and accessories, this versatile collection has a timeless appeal just in time for all of your Spring/Summer sewing and crafting projects.

"I am a Utah native, a wife, homeschool mom and lifelong artist who absolutely loves to create. I’ve loved art since I was a little girl, where I was often found drawing, painting, sewing, sculpting, or doing anything else artistic that I could get my hands on. I started my college education as a Studio Art Major at BYU, and then changed paths a year later when I married and moved out of state. In the years following I returned to school, and in 2022 I received my bachelor’s in Marriage and Family Science. I continued to draw and paint during my early motherhood and schooling years, using my husband, children, and the farmland of Payson, Utah as inspiration. I developed a passion for painting oil portraits, landscapes, and florals.

Recently I discovered surface pattern design and so I began to create collections of my own. I realized that my lifelong passion for making beautiful artwork, as well as my appreciation for interior design and artful surfaces/textiles could be used to create colorful and aesthetically pleasing patterns. I very quickly developed a love for surface design! I believe that beautiful patterns have a powerful impact on how we feel and so I strive to create delicate, yet, modern designs with playful motifs and cohesive color palettes.

When I’m not designing, you will find me painting with a variety of mediums, working on my business, gardening, jogging, baking sourdough bread, and above all, enjoying life with my amazing husband and three beautiful kids."
