Abby Glover, Oregon surface pattern designer behind AjoyeDesigns

Meet the Artist: Abby Glover of AjoyeDesigns

Abby Glover is the Oregon-based surface pattern designer behind AjoyeDesigns. Her hand-drawn and watercolor-painted patterns reflect a lifelong appreciation for wildflowers, woodland landscapes, coastal discoveries, and the intricate natural details found throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Growing up near the Oregon Coast gave Abby frequent opportunities to explore beaches, collect seashells, search tide pools, and gather inspiration from shifting water, weathered stones, marine life, and soft coastal color.

Abby earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Oregon State University and spent nearly a decade working professionally as an interior designer. That experience continues to shape the way she develops pattern collections, balances color and scale, and considers how fabrics will function across apparel, quilting, furnishings, and complete interior spaces.

Her Textile District catalog now includes three coordinated collections: Vitamin Sea for Kids, Victoria, and Feels Like Spring. Together, they span coastal novelty prints, elegant garden florals, small botanical coordinates, stripes, ginghams, textures, and quilting-friendly blenders.

Every AjoyeDesigns pattern is printed to order in the USA on your choice of 15+ base fabrics with a 1-yard minimum.

Nature-Inspired Pattern Informed by Interior Design

Abby’s work begins with close observation. Flowers, leaves, branches, stones, shells, sea creatures, garden paths, and familiar landscapes are simplified into patterns that preserve their natural character while remaining practical for sewing and interior projects.

Hand sketching gives her botanical designs delicate line and organic movement, while watercolor introduces layered color, softly varied edges, and gentle tonal changes. These qualities are especially visible in her coastal textures, airy florals, and illustrated sea-life patterns.

Her interior-design background adds structure to the artistic process. Collections include statement patterns for visual focus, medium-scale supporting designs, and quieter coordinates that can be repeated through upholstery, curtains, bedding, quilts, apparel details, and accessories.

The resulting style is natural, welcoming, and highly usable. Some patterns feel playful and child-friendly, while others are tailored enough for sophisticated apparel and home décor.

Vitamin Sea for Kids

Vitamin Sea for Kids celebrates the wonder of childhood visits to the beach. Abby drew from memories of searching for shells, discovering starfish among the rocks, watching sailboats, and exploring the wet sand along the Oregon Coast.

Starry Octopus, Seahorses, Starfish, Seashells, Sea Urchin, and Sea Birds introduce recognizable marine life with a gentle illustrated quality. Sailboat adds a peaceful nautical focal print, while Rocky Beach and Wet Sand interpret shoreline textures through watercolor and abstract marks.

Scales and Simple Stripe provide useful coordinating patterns for quilt borders, bindings, apparel details, pillow backs, and smaller accessories.

Blue, Green, and Orange color stories combine misty blue-gray, sea green, white, sand, coral, terracotta, and golden accents. The palettes feel coastal and cheerful without relying on a conventional navy-and-white nautical treatment.

The collection is especially well suited to children’s apparel, nursery bedding, coastal quilts, curtains, toys, beach bags, swim cover-ups, birthday décor, and handmade gifts.

See the Vitamin Sea Coastal Fabric Collection feature for additional project inspiration.

Victoria

Victoria is a refined garden collection designed to layer elegant florals with crisp supporting patterns. Its eight designs include lush focal flowers, smaller botanicals, branching silhouettes, gingham, stripes, and a playful floral dot.

In the Garden, Victoria Garden, and Bed of Poppies provide the collection’s principal statement florals. Rhodie and Wild Branches introduce lighter botanical structure, while Garden Gingham, Bold Stripes, and Floral Polka Dots provide contrast and rhythm.

Black, Blue, Blush, Green, and Persimmon colorways allow the same collection to move from dramatic and tailored to romantic, botanical, coastal, or warmly modern.

Victoria is particularly effective for dresses, blouses, modern quilts, curtains, table linens, pillows, bedding, bags, and coordinated rooms where one floral is supported by several quieter patterns.

Five Victoria fat-quarter bundles offer twelve coordinated prints in Black, Blue, Blush, Green, or Persimmon. Each assortment is printed on premium Cotton Quilt fabric for patchwork, accessories, small home-décor projects, and makers who prefer a ready-planned color story.

Feels Like Spring

Feels Like Spring combines airy florals, delicate botanicals, playful hearts, a structured harlequin coordinate, and a tailored stripe. The collection feels fresh and cheerful while remaining polished enough for apparel and complete interior projects.

Ella provides an airy botanical focal print, while June and Margo offer tossed florals at different visual weights. Lucy adds a delicate leafy rhythm, and Haley Harlequin creates a tidy geometric-botanical coordinate.

Sweet Hearts introduces a charming small-scale novelty print, and Susie Stripe provides clean directional contrast for borders, bindings, piping, cuffs, table linens, and decorative details.

Blush Pink, Butter Yellow, Lemoncello, Marine Blue, Orange Sherbet, Raspberry Pink, Seagreen, Soft Pink, and related shades create gentle color stories that can be mixed across quilting, apparel, nursery sewing, bedding, curtains, pillows, and accessories.

Project Inspiration for AjoyeDesigns Fabrics

Quilting and Coordinated Patchwork

Choose a Victoria garden floral, an airy Feels Like Spring botanical, or a Vitamin Sea character print as the focal fabric. Add gingham, stripes, dots, sand textures, scales, or small florals for blocks, borders, sashing, binding, and backing.

A Victoria fat-quarter bundle provides a ready-made starting point for quilts, patchwork bags, table runners, pillows, fabric baskets, and handmade gifts.

Apparel and Children’s Sewing

Print florals, sailboats, sea creatures, botanicals, ginghams, or stripes on lightweight cotton, cotton sateen, linen, stretch fabric, or another suitable apparel base for dresses, blouses, shirts, skirts, pajamas, robes, swim cover-ups, and children’s clothing.

Smaller coordinates work particularly well for collars, cuffs, pockets, facings, linings, bindings, and accessories.

Curtains, Bedding, and Home Décor

Use In the Garden, Victoria Garden, Ella, Sailboat, or another focal design for curtains, upholstered headboards, duvet accents, pillows, and decorative panels.

Repeat the palette through a stripe, gingham, small botanical, or textural coordinate on pillow backs, piping, table linens, lampshades, and storage accessories.
