Meet the Artist: Blair Lambert
Blair Lambert is an artist and surface pattern designer whose hand-drawn work brings together charming animal characters, gentle botanicals, traditional decorative motifs, and the warmth of vintage children’s illustration.
After attending graduate school in New York City, operating a preschool, and even working aboard an aircraft carrier, Blair now lives a quieter creative life with her family in upstate New York. She can often be found drawing at home or spending time with the chickens and other animals around her barn.
Blair’s love of animals and experience in the world of young children are reflected throughout her work. Ducklings, hedgehogs, butterflies, songbirds, pond plants, berries, flowers, and folk-art motifs are transformed into storybook patterns with calming color, approachable detail, and a timeless decorative quality.
Her collections include expressive focal prints as well as plaids, stripes, florals, geometrics, and small-scale coordinates for nursery décor, children’s apparel, quilting, bedding, curtains, table linens, accessories, and heirloom-inspired home sewing.
Every Blair Lambert design is printed to order in the USA on your choice of 15+ base fabrics with a 1-yard minimum.
Hand-Drawn Patterns with Storybook Warmth
Blair’s patterns have the familiar warmth of a favorite illustrated book. Her animal characters feel expressive and engaging without becoming overly cartoon-like, while her flowers, leaves, fruit, birds, and decorative coordinates give each collection a complete visual setting.
Traditional design elements are an important part of her style. Plaids, botanical stripes, quilt-block geometrics, mirrored birds, scrolling vines, folk tulips, and small allover repeats add structure and make the more illustrative designs easier to coordinate across finished projects.
Color is handled with similar restraint. Soft blue, sage, blush, cream, cinnamon, golden yellow, brown, muted purple, and blue-green create gentle palettes suited to nurseries and children’s sewing, while deeper earth tones and richer folk-art combinations extend the designs into cottage interiors, apparel, and year-round home décor.
The result is fabric that feels playful enough for children but thoughtful and decorative enough for quilts, curtains, bedding, table linens, clothing, and handmade pieces intended to be used and treasured for years.

Ducklings in the Rain: Pond Animals and Nursery Coordinates
Ducklings in the Rain creates a complete storybook pond through swimming ducks, ducklings, butterflies, feathers, footprints, cattails, pond lilies, duckweed, ferns, wildflowers, oak leaves, and coordinating plaid.
The collection balances illustrative animal prints with smaller botanical and geometric patterns. Ducklings in the Rain, Swimming Ducks, and Ducklings and Butterflies work as feature fabrics, while Duck Feet, Duck Feathers, Pond Plaid, Duckweed, and other supporting designs make it easier to coordinate quilt blocks, bindings, pillow backs, linings, and room accents.
Autumn, Spring, and Winter color stories move from warm rust, sage, beige, and gold to gentle blue, peach, gray, cream, and lilac. These palettes support baby quilts, nursery bedding, children’s clothing, pajamas, curtains, pillows, playroom décor, and woodland-inspired gifts.
Hedgehogs: Woodland Animals, Berries, and Garden Florals
The Hedgehogs collection follows Blair’s small animal characters into flower and berry-filled garden settings. Hedgehogs in Garden and Hedgehogs in Berries provide the principal character prints, accompanied by Forget Me Nots, Butterflies in Flight, and Garden Plaid.
The mix of animals, flowers, butterflies, berries, and plaid creates a flexible woodland collection for nursery sewing, children’s rooms, quilts, clothing, pajamas, blankets, fabric storage, and handmade gifts.
Indigo, light blue, purple, cinnamon, green, tan, pink, and golden shades allow the collection to feel soft and youthful or warmer and more traditional depending on the selected colorway.
Shima-Enaga Snow Fairy Birds: Songbirds, Blossoms, and Tulips
Shima-Enaga Snow Fairy Birds is inspired by the tiny white Japanese songbird often called a snow fairy. Blair surrounds the round, delicate birds with cherry blossoms, leafy branches, baby’s breath, tiny blooms, scrolling tulips, and coordinating stripes.
Shima Enaga Birds and Shima Enaga Cherry Trees offer charming focal prints, while Tiny Blooms, Babies Breath, Tiny Tulips, Scrolling Tulips, and Cherry Stripes provide floral and directional coordinates.
Spring, Summer, and Autumn palettes combine warm cream, soft brown, gold, rust, muted green, and gentle seasonal color. The collection works beautifully for bird-themed quilts, children’s apparel, nursery curtains, bedding, pillows, table linens, and small handmade accessories.
Autumn Blumme: Folk Florals, Birds, and Heirloom-Inspired Design
Autumn Blumme expands Blair’s storybook style into a more decorative folk-art collection. Stylized tulips, graceful birds, pomegranates, berries, scrolling vines, quilt-block motifs, checks, dots, and botanical stripes create a warm, collected look with broad appeal beyond children’s sewing.
Love Birds, Fruit and Birds, Folk Art Tulip Scroll, and Elegant Pomegranate provide distinctive focal patterns. Tulip Quilt, Tulip Check, Tiny Tulips Blumme, Pomegranate Stripe, Birds and Dots, and Berries on the Vine offer useful supporting prints for coordinated projects.
Soft blue-green, cocoa brown, blush pink, sage, cream, terracotta, rust, and golden yellow give the collection a romantic cottage and heirloom character. These fabrics are particularly suited to quilts, curtains, bedding, table linens, aprons, dresses, pillows, nursery décor, and gift sewing.

Project Inspiration for Blair Lambert Fabrics
Baby Quilts and Coordinated Nursery Sewing
Choose Ducklings in the Rain, Hedgehogs in Garden, Shima Enaga Birds, Love Birds, or another illustrated pattern as the focal fabric, then add plaids, tiny florals, stripes, feathers, dots, checks, and botanicals for quilt blocks, sashing, borders, binding, and backing.
Shared palettes make it possible to coordinate a quilt with curtains, crib or toddler bedding, pillows, fabric baskets, changing-table accessories, and other handmade nursery pieces.
Children’s Apparel and Pajamas
Print Blair’s animals, birds, butterflies, small florals, plaids, or folk-art coordinates on lightweight cotton, cotton sateen, linen, stretch fabric, or another suitable apparel base for dresses, shirts, skirts, pajamas, robes, bloomers, and accessories.
Smaller repeats such as Duck Feet, Duck Feathers, Birds and Dots, Tiny Blooms, Tiny Tulips, and Forget Me Nots work especially well where the complete motif needs to remain visible on a small garment.
Storybook Bedrooms and Playrooms
Use a feature animal, bird, or floral print for curtains, bedding, a duvet cover, pillow shams, an upholstered headboard, or a reading-nook cushion. Repeat the palette through plaid, stripe, check, and small botanical coordinates rather than covering the entire room with one design.
The softer Spring, Winter, blue, green, and cream colorways create calm rooms, while cinnamon, rust, gold, brown, and richer folk palettes provide a warmer cottage-inspired direction.
Modern and Heirloom-Inspired Quilts
Blair’s collections are particularly well suited to coordinated quilting because each includes statement imagery and quieter supporting patterns. Use an animal, bird, or decorative botanical as the focal fabric, then introduce geometric and small-scale coordinates throughout the quilt.
Autumn Blumme supports more traditional or folk-inspired patchwork, while Ducklings in the Rain, Hedgehogs, and Snow Fairy Birds create playful quilts for children, nature lovers, and storybook-inspired spaces.
Curtains, Bedding, and Cottage Home Décor
Love Birds, Fruit and Birds, Folk Art Tulip Scroll, Pomegranate Stripe, Shima Enaga Cherry Trees, Pond Lilies, and other flowing patterns can be printed for curtain panels, Roman shades, duvet covers, bed skirts, pillow shams, and decorative cushions.
Pair an illustrated or medium-scale pattern with a plaid, stripe, check, berry, or small floral coordinate for pillow backs, piping, trim, and reversible pieces.
Table Linens, Aprons, and Kitchen Sewing
Autumn Blumme’s pomegranates, berries, tulips, birds, stripes, and checks translate naturally to table runners, tablecloths, napkins, placemats, aprons, chair pads, café curtains, and reusable bread or produce bags.
Use a decorative focal pattern for the principal piece and reserve the smaller coordinates for napkins, borders, bindings, pockets, ties, and reversible backs.
Soft Toys, Blankets, and Handmade Gifts
Blair’s storybook animals and gentle botanicals work well for soft toys, fabric books, blankets, bibs, burp cloths, drawstring bags, doll accessories, book sleeves, and keepsake gifts.
Selected patterns can also be printed on fleece for cozy blankets, soft accessories, and cold-weather children’s projects.
Bags and Small Accessories
Use animal prints, birds, plaids, stripes, and folk florals for tote bags, zipper pouches, cosmetic cases, fabric baskets, lunch bags, and travel accessories. Pair a focal pattern with a smaller coordinate for the lining, handles, pockets, or contrast panels.
