Sudie Rakusin is a visual artist, sculptor, author, illustrator, publisher, and textile designer whose expressive work is distinguished by rich color, layered texture, intricate pattern, and a deeply personal connection to the natural world.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Sudie now lives and works in Hillsborough, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Boston University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Arizona.
Her multidisciplinary practice includes pen-and-ink drawing, collage, papier-mâché sculpture, vessels, beadwork, cold-wax and oil abstracts, and dimensional oil paintings featuring women, animals, and richly imagined environments. She has also created commissioned illustrations and book-cover artwork for established authors.
