Meet the Artist: Claire of Thinkling Creative
Claire is the UK-based graphic and surface pattern designer behind Thinkling Creative. Her work combines loose hand-drawn marks, playful geometry, retro-inspired forms, expressive color, and an approachable style that feels modern without becoming overly formal.
After a long career in stationery design, Claire followed her interest in surface pattern and established Thinkling Creative in 2019. Her experience designing greeting cards, wrapping paper, and branded products helped shape her understanding of repeat, scale, color, and how patterns translate to functional objects.
Most Thinkling Creative designs begin as hand-drawn sketches. Claire develops the artwork digitally in Adobe Illustrator using a Wacom tablet, preserving the irregularity and energy of the original marks while building clean, versatile repeats.
Her Textile District catalog now ranges from modern abstract coordinates and bold mid-century geometrics to playful florals, woodland-inspired patterns, plaids, stripes, animal spots, and small-scale quilting blenders.
Every Thinkling Creative design is printed to order in the USA on your choice of 15+ base fabrics with a 1-yard minimum.
Loose, Playful Pattern with a Retro-Modern Point of View
Thinkling Creative patterns have an informal energy that comes from Claire’s sketchbook-driven process. Circles, arches, grids, stripes, dots, flowers, animal spots, and geometric fragments retain slight irregularities that keep the fabric feeling lively rather than mechanically precise.
Claire often names collections and designs after people, places, and ideas that have personal or local significance. The name Valian, for example, was created by combining names from her family. This approach reinforces the connection between her patterns and the people and surroundings that inspire them.
Color is used with equal confidence. Soft mint, blush, cornflower, taupe, and cream sit alongside berry, mustard, teal, magenta, rust, navy, and bright sherbet shades. The range allows the same graphic pattern to feel calming, playful, earthy, coastal, or dramatically retro.
Each collection includes focal designs and quieter coordinates, making the fabrics especially useful for quilting, apparel, upholstery, curtains, bedding, children’s projects, bags, table linens, and layered home décor.

Thinkling Creative Fabric Collections
Valian: Loose Abstract and Geometric Coordinates
Valian introduced Thinkling Creative to The Textile District through eight hand-drawn geometric patterns. Fizz, Fleck Grid, Fleck Plaid, Fleck Scatter, Oscar Stamp, Shell Stamp, Victor Scatter, and Victor Stripe combine irregular dots, grids, stamped shapes, directional marks, and playful linear movement.
Berry, Blush, Cornflower, Jewel, Mint, Popcorn, Shingle, and Toffee colorways range from vivid jewel tones to soft pastels and versatile neutrals.
The collection is particularly useful for modern quilting, children’s sewing, apparel coordinates, pillow backs, linings, table linens, bags, fabric storage, and relaxed contemporary interiors.
Bayan: Bold Mid-Century and Retro Geometric Fabric
Bayan explores rounded arches, angular fragments, starbursts, waves, medallions, stripes, and layered geometric forms. Wave, Trigon, Shard, Patches, Offset, Locket, Flare, and Crescent have a confident mid-century character suited to both statement and coordinating applications.
Its eight color stories include Forest, Mono, Nautical, Ocean, Peony, Regal, Rust, and Sherbert. The same patterns can therefore move from sophisticated black and white to coastal blue, earthy terracotta, saturated jewel tones, or playful pastel brights.
Bayan works especially well for statement upholstery, curtains, pillows, modern quilts, bags, apparel, outdoor accents printed on an appropriate performance base, and rooms with a retro-modern point of view.
Lieta: Cheerful Spring and Summer Retro Patterns
Lieta is a lively spring-and-summer collection inspired by flowers, bright seasonal color, and bold retro pattern. Its designs combine florals, circles, lattice structures, stripes, houndstooth-inspired forms, and rounded geometric motifs.
Coastal, Marshmallow, Pop, Rainbow, Shale, and Thistle offer six distinct directions. Soft coastal blue and green feel fresh and relaxed, Marshmallow provides gentle lavender and cream, Pop and Rainbow introduce energetic color, and Shale and Thistle create quieter neutral or botanical alternatives.
Lieta is a flexible choice for quilting, children’s rooms, warm-weather apparel, bedding, pillows, bags, curtains, table linens, and colorful handmade accessories.
Meyra: Woodland Florals, Plaids, Stripes, and Animal Spots
Meyra draws inspiration from the woodland view outside Claire’s studio window. Meadow, Jasmine, and Corsage provide floral designs, while Bengal introduces an irregular animal spot. Adder and Willow offer directional stripes, Picnic supplies a relaxed plaid, and Dew functions as a small confetti-like texture.
Juniper, Mist, Rose, Steel, and Wicker combine dusty blue-green, blush, coral, pale blue, cream, taupe, teal, and golden accents in soft, coordinated palettes.
The balance of florals, animal print, plaid, stripe, and texture makes Meyra especially useful for quilts, apparel, nursery and children’s décor, bedding, curtains, pillows, bags, and softly layered interiors.

Project Inspiration for Thinkling Creative Fabrics
Modern Quilting and Patchwork
Begin with a Thinkling Creative fat-quarter bundle or select one focal geometric, floral, or animal pattern. Add grids, dots, stripes, plaids, and smaller coordinates for quilt blocks, sashing, borders, binding, and backing.
Valian supports playful modern patchwork, Bayan adds bold retro structure, Lieta introduces bright spring-and-summer color, and Meyra provides softer woodland-inspired combinations.
Statement Interiors and Upholstery
Use Flare, Crescent, Wave, Trigon, Jeepers, Boogie, Meadow, or another distinctive pattern for curtains, upholstered chairs, benches, ottomans, headboards, large pillows, and decorative panels.
Select cotton duck, twill, sailcloth, linen, velvet, outdoor polyester, or another appropriate base according to the project’s intended use.
Apparel, Accessories, and Children’s Sewing
Print florals, stripes, plaids, abstract marks, or small geometrics on lightweight cotton, cotton sateen, linen, stretch fabric, or another suitable base for dresses, shirts, skirts, pajamas, robes, jackets, tote bags, zipper pouches, and children’s clothing.
Smaller patterns such as Dew, Fizz, Fleck Scatter, and Victor Scatter work well on detailed pieces, while larger retro repeats create strong movement across simpler silhouettes.
