Shayla Johnson of Scarlet Crane was one of the early independent artists to join The Textile District’s designer program, bringing a distinctive mix of contemporary pattern, hand-crafted texture and bold color to our artist-designed fabric catalog.
Trained in product design at Georgia Tech and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Shayla has long worked across surface pattern, textiles and handmade goods. Her fabric collection at The Textile District includes florals, geometrics and abstract designs with a modern, graphic sensibility.
While her licensed fabric collection here has remained intentionally focused, Shayla continues to develop her broader creative business through Scarlet Crane, where she creates hand-printed home goods, textile pieces and giftable objects.
That makes this collection a little different from a traditional launch story. It represents an early chapter in Shayla’s ongoing creative work, and her designs remain available through The Textile District for customers who want to bring her pattern style into apparel, quilting, accessories and home décor.

Shayla’s work reflects a strong interest in pattern, repetition and the relationship between art and functional objects. Her designs move between free-flowing botanicals, abstract textures and bold geometrics, often using simple shapes and layered color to create patterns that feel modern without being overly rigid.
